Maya Angelou: A Tribute

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

This quote is by Maya Angelou who passed away today. She is one of my models and an inspiration for the creation of the "Gutsy Women Win" movement.

She was truly gutsy and bold and stood up for what she believed was the right thing to do no matter what. She lived her life phenomenally. She was the kind of woman I strive to be and many times fall short due to my own fears screaming in my head that stop me, and in 99.99 percent of the time, these fears never become reality.

So now is the time to start the movement. To move forward. Boldly. Without hesitation. With intention.

Let's co-create the "Gutsy Women Win" movement starting today. Let's shed those comfort zones that are no longer working for us, feed the hunger we are feeling to make a difference, and take the bold action that is needed to move us forward.

I say "co-create" as I am creating this movement with you.

We may have met, or not yet met. Regardless, we are going to get gutsy and get going. Together.

We're going to:

  • Rediscover (discover something forgotten or ignored again) who we are;

  • Redefine (define again or differently) what we must make real during our lives;

  • Reclaim (retrieve or recover something previously lost) who we are; and

  • Proclaim (announce officially or publicly) what we are doing.

  • Oh yes! and Celebrate (publicly acknowledge a significant event with a social gathering or enjoyable activity) what we have done.

Let's inspire each other to keep going when we want to give up. To find allies in each other and learn the rewards in not having to do it all alone. To encourage and support each other when we feel like giving it all up.

Let's become the leaders our families, neighbors, communities, cities, states, nations and even the world is calling us to be.

I find in moving forward to get gutsy I need to be in action, so I have two calls to action for you.

Thanks Jeannie! I have seen so many wonderful tributes to Dr. Angelou. And yes, we should all be so gutsy and I think we do in parts of our lives. We just need to do it more.
