(Re)Treat Yourself to Some Time Away

beach reading
“Vacation is what you take when you can't take what you've been taking any longer.” - Unknown

Stress is the #1 factor that contributes to aging faster than normal. And there is a link between reduced stress and more vacation. We have all had enough stress created by external and internal factors over the last two years. What’s the best way to recalibrate? It’s time to take hold of the summer months ahead and (re)treat yourself to some time away.

This can take many forms: solo vacation, family…

5 Tips to Get Better Sleep

adam-grabek-JCXANpeR2XI-unsplash-edited
“I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” ― Ernest Hemingway

Hint: sleep really starts before you lay down!

I don’t know about you, but the impact of the pandemic overall, and this recent spike causing me to stay home again has made a mess of my sleep patterns. All the stress and anxiety COVID brought to my life made it difficult for me to fall asleep and stay asleep. I decided to do a bit of research on how to improve my sleep during these times and her…

“Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” - Voltaire

Last holiday season was not what we are used to. No holiday parties each night for several weeks, no large friends and family gatherings, no in-person festive celebrations. But this year promises to be different, and I want to revel in that excitement and be more grateful than ever for the things I took for granted pre-pandemic.

This holiday season, I want to lead with appreciation, e…

There is Something Freeing About Saying “No”

photo-1516675457768-db513e191dcc

For the longest time, I would say “yes” to just about everything. I wanted to be seen as a collaborator, supporter, and making things easier for others, putting myself second. I was slow to realize that for everything I said "yes" to, I would be saying "no" to something else. That started me thinking about what it is I was saying "no" to, and found  it was much more effective for me to say "no" to things to make the space to fully say "yes" to those things I really, really wanted.

I ran across…

Don’t Fear the Mistakes, Instead Fail Fabulously

varvara-grabova-NCSARCecw4U-unsplash

"Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from." - Al Franken

Fail Fabulously. I first heard this term when I was attending my first coach-training workshop. I disliked it from the moment I heard it. What was fabulous about failing? Failing was failing. When I failed at something I tried I was embarrassed, humiliated at times, and…

How to Survive Your Life Transitions – A 2021 Update

justin-docanto-q-i_sxORsqw-unsplash

"The important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." - Charles DuBos

Transition is the process of letting go of the way things used to be and then taking hold of the way they subsequently become. Sounds easy, but in reality, it is really hard letting go of the comfort of sameness.

Think about it: as we entered quarantine last March, it was hard to change how we did our everyday tasks, wear a mask, stay away from family and friends, etc…

Be intentional.

With all that has happened this past year, I believe this time is calling us to act in bigger and better ways than we ever have in the past. I will be reflecting on these four questions asked in Deepak Chopra’s Sound Meditation studies:

  • Who am I?
  • What do I want?
  • What is my purpose?
  • What am I grateful for?

Yes, these are big questions to ask your self. I’ve been asking myself these questions for quite some time this year. The answers that keep coming up are very simple for me and if you …

The Invitation

"Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, 'This is the real me,' and when you have found that attitude, follow it." ~James Truslow Adams

'Tis the Season and I am always struck at this time with reflecting back on the year and those who have crossed my path on this adventure called life. I have truly been blessed with individuals that have taught me great things in very small ways. I read …

How I Found My Gutsy

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any. ~ Alice Walker

Have you ever had someone say something to you that shook your world and made you feel worth less than what you believed you were worth? Well, I have and here’s what I did about it.

Early in my career, I was working in business at an international company. It was January, the dreaded “Personnel Management Performance Review” time. I walked into my boss’ office, and sat at the round table where…

Be Thankful for the Setbacks

thankful_dreamstime_xl_125118563

This historic year has been very difficult for most of us and the advice we’ve received about not being with extended family and friends has also been hard to hear. But through it all, I know human beings are a resilient bunch and we will make it through this.

One of the gifts the Pandemic has given me is a newfound pleasure of poetry. Here is my Thanksgiving poem to you.
