What Is It Like To Be You?

If a question can be loved, I love this question.

I don’t recall who first asked me this question, but when I was asked, I do remember feeling a bit stunned at its power. I was surprised that I could not easily find the words to explain to the other person what it was like to be me.

This question has come up lately in light of the political unrest and strong divisiveness that is occurring in the United States. These actions have been bringing up so many conversations around racism and religio…

Five Tips to Create More ‘A-Ha’ Moments

“Eureka! - I have found it!”  - Archimedes
I don’t know about you, but I really love those “Eureka!” moments.  I love the rush and the hit of dopamine I get when I realize I have just brilliantly solved a problem, or imagined something very creative, or found the answer to a question that I’ve been noodling and loosing sleep over.

It’s these moments of insight that I’ve always wanted to understand and now I do…at least a little bit better.

The Importance of Acknowledging Others

The best way to acknowledge others. Stop. Look. See each other.

How many times have we asked someone “How are you?” hoping we don’t get more than a one-word response such as “Fine” or “Good?” How often do we just continue to walk on and not stop to acknowledge the person answering—or perhaps asking—the question, just so we’ll be able to continue with whatever we were doing with minimal disruption?

How does it make you feel to not be acknowledged or to be brusquely brushed off or completely ig…

Get Out of Your Own Way

“My hunger goes back to the place where anything is possible. When I look at what is driving us forward as a country, or even as an organization, I very much believe that our choices define our reality and how we live our lives. You can look at the glass half empty or half full. It is the way I have lived my life in the midst of a really challenging story with trauma, losses, and much more.

“I believe this time is an incredible opportunity. People need to be inspired. They need to know they …

The Value of Naysayers in Your Life

“True friends stab you in the front.” - Oscar Wilde

Naysayers are the people in our life who pretty much attempt to kill our ideas. They can be competitors, road blockers, people who actually voice all the negative things our monkey mind is telling us. There are many reasons they may try to sabotage our moving forward in our games, but those reasons are not relevant. What is relevant is that you need to be able to say “thank you very much” and move on. As Courtney Ruby, former elected City …

Just Say “No”.

During a leadership coaching workshop, I came upon the idea that for everything I say "Yes" to, I am saying "No" to something else.

That started me thinking about what it is I say "No" to. I kept finding that it was much more effective for me to say "No" to things to make the space to fully say "Yes" to those things I really, really wanted. To all those things that were missing from my life because I said “Yes” so much to make it easy for others and in doing that, they would find me as someo…

Just Say "Yes"

"Service to others is the payment you make for your space space here on earth." ~Mohammed Ali

A while back, I received an email from a friend who was looking for a few good women to help her lead a leadership program at a girl's camp. I read the email and almost skipped right by it until I saw it was called "Camp Cinderella." Now, what girl, no matter what her age, would miss an opportunity to attend "Camp Cinderella?"

Not only that, but it was held at Pepperdine University, in Malibu, Calif…

Lead and Live with Your Vision. Intentionally.

live with intention. walk to the edge. listen hard. practice wellness. play with abandon. Laugh. choose with no regret. continue to learn. appreciate your friends. do what you love. live as if this is all there is.

- maryanne radmacher-hershey

The above prose is a framed print that sits behind my computer and catches my eye every day.

I have carried this print with me for several years now and I’ve adopted this as my philosophy for the way I want to live my life. With intention, and living a…

The Impact of Status

"Modern brain research supports the thesis that humans are social beings, hard-wired to live and work together, and that those who possess, develop and employ the skills needed to bond with others are those who will prosper in health, wealth, happiness, and effectiveness," by Daniel Goleman, author of Social Intelligence.

I have always known that status, where you are in the pecking order, in organizations and leadership is important. I remember my…

Five Tips to Trigger your Creativity

Con on Rock Ireland 2017

I just returned from two weeks hiking and touring in Southwestern Ireland. Some places I visited: Ring of Kerry, Skellig Michael, Cork, Dingle Peninsula, Connemara National Park and the Cliffs of Mohr just to name a few places.

As I traveled, I carried a journal and forced myself to stop along the way to capture any thoughts that I wanted to save as I hiked, walked, read, ate, drank, rode, danced, shopped, etc.

I found that this get-a-way was causing me to be very pro…
